Meg Raspberry is apprenticed to a master of magic and one of the Seven Sages, the "Witch of Eternity" Faust. On her 17th birthday, Meg is told by Faust that the girl only has one year left to live. Meg has been cursed with a "death sentence." There is only one way for her to escape dying of the curse: to create a seed of life, which grants immortality to whoever gains one. The seed of life requires fragments of emotions as ingredients: tears of joy that flow when people are happy.

"Okay, then how many tears do I need to collect?"
"One thousand people's worth."
"...Excuse me?"

This is the beginning of Meg's jorney to collect tears of joy, which affects the lives of all kinds of people. Fine, her oldest and best friend. Inori, the "Witch of Wisdom," who is another Sage like Faust. Sophie, the "Witch of Blessing," a young genius who is already a Sage despite being Meg's age.
